Walking On Water Part 1

You always hear the story of Jesus walking on water in a storm to go save his disciples but have you ever thought deeply about it? In this story Jesus makes himself known! He is showing the world that He is truly the son of God.

Jesus Walks On Water

V. 22-24 Right away Jesus made the disciples get into the boat. He had them go on ahead of him to the other side of the Sea of Galilee. Then he sent the crowd away. After he had sent them away, he went up on the mountainside by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone. The boat was already a long way from land. It was being pounded by the waves because the wind was blowing against it.

Even Jesus needed alone time to pray. He sent away the crowd and and went onto the mountainside to be alone. Out in the middle of the the Sea of Galilee his disciples were being pounded by a storm and were near to death.

V. 25 Early in the morning, Jesus went out to his disciples. He walked on the sea.

He walked on the ocean! He walked on water! Take a minute. Let that soak in. Jesus walked on water! Just to let you know, gravity existed then! Jesus is walking on the ocean in a storm with wind and waves crashing over him! He did that for his disciples! He walked three miles out into a storm to save his endangered disciples!

V. 26 They saw him walking on the lake and were terrified. "It's a ghost!" they said. And they cried out in fear.

Would you be terrified if you were out in the middle of the sea and your close friend came out to you walking on the water? I know I would! Even the disciples cried out in fear!

V. 27 Right away Jesus called out to them, "Be brave! It is I. Don't be afraid."

Jesus is saying take heart, be encouraged, and do not be afraid! I have you in my hands! Also in this He makes himself known.

V. 28-31 "Lord, is it you?" Peter asked. "If it is, tell me to come to you on the water." "Come," Jesus said. So Peter got out of the boat. He walked on the water toward Jesus. But when Peter saw the wind, he was afraid. He began to sink. He cried out, 'Lord! Save me!"

Peter stepped out of his boat and said if it you make me come to you. Jesus had the strength and power too show that he was truly the son of God. Step out of your boat and ask God to take the lead. Even if your in a deep place and your sinking He will be there to reach out his hand and pull you out of the water.

V. 31 Right away Jesus reached out his hand and caught him."Your faith is so small!" he said. "Why did you doubt me?"

Peter was scared by the wind! The invisible wind! We are scared by the invisible things in life. But we have a God that loves us even when were scared and even when were sinking, He is there.
